Waxing and Waning of 40k, or just go play 5th edition

http://23lines.blogspot.com/2015/05/to-all-tournaments-screwing-with-40k.html

Pretty much sums up all the banning GT's are implementing in recent 7th edition 40k.  And before jumping to a fan boy conclusion realize that TO's have a vested monetary interest in tournaments which ultimately will drive the decisions they make.  ( example is if no one wants to play a certain codex and therefore will not attend the TO will ban the codex Vs. not having the GT and suffer the financial consequence)

7th edition is not 5th edition, stop trying to make it that.

  1. The only issue with this argument, is that is what the community seems to want. Tournament attendance has been rising steadily, and events with greater restrictions (such as adepticons wide swath of options) seem to be growing even faster.

Adepticon did have an unrestricted event. It had the least participation.

  2. Most of the community could care less and just wants to have a good time and play a few games at a GT's. Last year attendance were down at a few of the major GT's for 40k that had major restrictions. General GT attendance is up because 40k isn't the only game on the block now. Also the "community" that attends GT's is not a representative cross section of all 40k players. I play in a league as well as having a local play group and neither follow GT rulings.

As far as unrestricted events. Adepticon also had a team event that had the most participation. So than should all GT's only have a team events? I know what you mean and yes i think that unbound etc may be a bit much for a GT environment. All this is just my opinion. I have no dog in the fight as I no longer support or attended GT's or RTT's associated with them. If it's your flavor by all means go and have a good time as that's what it's all about.
